UConn Softball Heads to Charleston for the Cougar Classic

Charleston, SC – The UConn softball team looks to bounce back at the Cougar Classic this weekend.
UConn comes into this weekend with a 3-6 record on the young season. The Huskies found their stride at the plate this past weekend accumulating 30 hits and scoring 20 runs. They were led by Senior Reese Guevarra and Sophomore Jana Sanden who combined for seven extra base hits on the weekend. Guevarra and Sanden manufactured ten of the Huskies twenty runs on the weekend.
UConn will look to stay hot at the dish this weekend in Charleston as they open the Cougar Classic on Friday, February 25th with a pair of matchups with the Western Carolina Catamounts and host school College of Charleston.
In the first game on Friday, UConn matches up with a Western Carolina team that holds an 8-4 record on the year. They are led by a pair of Junior pitchers Jayme Eilers and Savannah Rice who both hold under a 2.00 ERA on the year and have a combined 85 punchouts. First pitch will be at 12:30pm.
In the second game of Friday's doubleheader, the Huskies will play the College of Charleston Cougars who have a 3-7 record on the year. They are led by Senior catcher Jenna Helberg who holds a team high .464 batting average and seven extra base hits. This game will be streamed on FloSoftball at 5:30pm.
On Saturday, February 26th the Huskies will play another double header. In the first game of the day, they will face the Appalachian State Mountaineers at 10:00am. The Mountaineers hold a 5-2 record on the year. In the second game of the day, the Huskies will see Western Carolina in a rematch at 12:30pm.
The Huskies will close out the Cougar Classic on Sunday, February 27th with their second matchup against Appalachian State at 11:00am.
