No. 6 FH Captures First Win vs. No. 21 Miami, 2-1

EVANSTON, Ill - The No. 6 UConn field hockey team earned its first win of the season with a 2-1 victory against No. 21 Miami (OH) on a steamy afternoon at Lakeside Field.
McKenna Sergi opened the scoring with a great finish off a crossing feed from Maddy Wray. The Greene, N.Y native lifted a one-timer past the keeper to collect her third career goal.
Erica Solomen doubled the UConn lead with a quick strike off a restart that gave the Huskies a bit of breathing room before the halftime break.
The score remained the same until the early stages of the fourth quarter. The Redhawks were able to score at the 47:22 mark to make it a one-goal game.
The Husky defense was able to make a stand for the remainder of the match including some great defensive plays on two penalty corners in the last 25 seconds of the match.
Next up, the Huskies head home to play its home opener next Friday, September 3 against Rutgers at 6 p.m. at the George Sherman Family Sports Complex.
