Offense Not Enough in 15-13 setback at No. 9 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas - The UConn baseball team (4-9) lost its fourth game in a row despite posting a season-high 13 runs on 18 hits on Sunday afternoon against No. 9 Texas Tech. The Red Raiders captured the third game of the series 15-13.
An offensive shootout was expected with winds blowing out to left field at gusts of 25 mph but it was throwing strikes that helped the Red Raiders offense.
UConn pitchers walked eight and hit seven batters on Sunday and those freebies directly led to seven runs for Texas Tech.
At the plate, the Huskies never gave in despite trailing by as many as seven runs, losing Reggie Crawford mid-game (lost contact lenses) and three injured Huskies (Austin Peterson, T.C. Simmons and Justin Willis).
10 Huskies recorded at least one hit, while seven recorded multi-hit performances.
T.C. SImmons got the offense going early with a pair of RBI doiubles and a 3-3 afternoon. The UConn outfielder had to exit the game after a scary collision in the outfield in the fifth inning.
Kyler Fedko collected a pair of doubles and drove in a team-high four runs while Kevin Ferrer came off the bench and knocked in three.
Despite trailing 12-6 in the eighth inning and 15-9 in the ninth, the UConn offense brought the tying run to the plate in each inning.
The Huskies look to salvage the four-game series on Monday with Kenny Haus getting the start for UConn at 11 a.m. ET.
