UConn Hosts Fairfield to Open 2020 Campaign

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's lacrosse team will begin the 2020 season on Wednesday afternoon when Fairfield comes to Storrs. The game is slated to begin at 3:00 pm at the Sherman Family Sports Complex.

Scouting the Stags
Fairfield comes to Storrs after dropping its opening game of the season against Holy Cross on Saturday. The Stags fell to the Crusaders 10-8 and fell to 0-1 to begin the season. Three players recorded multi-point games. Junior Jillian Winwood led the way with two goals and assists for a team-high three points. The Stags finished the 2019 regular season with a 15-4 overall record before falling to Wagner in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
Matchup History
Wednesday's matchup will be the 18th all-time meeting between UConn and Fairfield. The Huskies have a 12-5 record against the Stags, including seven straight victories. In last year's meeting, Fairfield defended its home field with a 13-7 win over UConn, its first since 2009.
Last Season
The Huskies finished with a 3-14 overall record and 1-4 mark in conference play last season. Junior Sydney Watson led UConn with 39 goals and 12 assists for 51 points. Sophomore Lia LaPrise tallied 20 goals and 17 assists for 37 points. Senior Olivia Miles also provided scoring for the Huskies with 26 goals and 6 assists, totaling 32 points.
