FULLERTON, Calif.—On a rain altered Day One of Judi Garman Classic, the UConn (3-10) softball team took on CSUN (6-9) and Cal State Fullerton (11-6).

Game 1

Freshman Ashley Esty has entered the starting lineup, making the most of her opportunity cracked a triple into left center to start the top of the fourth. Junior Chloe Kerns reached base on a hit by pitch. Redshirt-sophomore Olivia Sappington grounded out to the second baseman, advancing Kerns to second and scored Esty. The Huskies would tally one run, one hit, leaving two on base.

Freshman Aziah James reached on a fielding error by a pitcher to score a play later via a sophomore Briana Marcelino double to center field, advancing to third on the throw. Carli Culter doubled to left field to bring Marcelino home.

Junior Katie Koshes started in the circle for UConn and was relieved by sophomore Marybeth Olson who tossed five innings to deliver six strikeouts.

Game 2

The Huskies were down early in this matchup with the Titans of Cal State Fullerton who opened the game with a pair of runs. They then followed that by adding on eight more runs to their cause.

UConn was down but certainly not out after getting a spark from junior Ashlee Dahman who homered to right field, bringing junior pinch hitter Carissa Brizzi and pinch runner Kelli Bates home. The trio in the circle for the Huskies were senior Jill Stockley, Olson and Koshes. Together the unit posted six strikeouts through the five innings pitched.

UConn will be back in action with a single game on Day Two of the Judi Garman Classic against Fresno State at 3:30 p.m. Eastern and 12:30 p.m. Pacific. Live stream is provided by FloSoftball ($) and live stats can be found here.
