MIAMI, Fla.—UConn's trio of Briana Marcelino, Kelli Bates, and Kiwi McDaniel were the owners of the Huskies' three hits in the afternoon matchup against the Florida International Panthers (4-1) on Sunday, Feb. 10th.

UConn (3-1) was outdueled by FIU pitcher Megan Kugelmann, who tossed seven innings with two strikeouts and hit Reese Guevarra in the final inning. Pitcher Jill Stockley (1-1) took the loss for the Huskies.

Stockley pitched two innings allowing four hits and three runs before being relieved by Katie Koshes who went for 3.2 innings for UConn. Koshes' five strikeouts slowed FIU's offense down for several innings. However, the Huskies had to bring out Marybeth Olson to close the game in the bottom of the sixth.

UConn started the game off with a Marcelino double, although she would be out at third base. Bates followed with a single to left field, stealing second a play later. The Huskies would end the first with a pair of hits and leaving one stranded. The offense would hit a lull so to speak until the top of the fifth when McDaniel's double down the left field line would breathe life back into UConn. However, the inning would come to a close before McDaniel could be brought home.

The Panthers scored seven in the game, with a pair coming in the bottom of the second. Their next five would be split between a solo run in the third and four in the sixth.

In a bases loaded situation, Jackie Schoff's single would score the first run for FIU and be followed by a walk of Alexis Johns to score another Panther. The solo run in the third came from Deven Kennedy who popped up to the shortstop but not before scoring her teammate. Schoff came back in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to the shortstop, Johns followed her lead with a RBI single up the middle, and Jessica Rivera's two RBI single to center field scored FIU's last pair of runs.

The Huskies take on Boston University, Virginia Tech, USC Upstate, and Bowling Green in USC Upstate's Softball Tournament on Friday, Feb. 15th-Sunday, Feb. 17th.
