Huskies Fall to ECU in Straight Sets

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UConn volleyball team fell to the East Carolina Pirates on Friday night in Greenville, North Carolina. The Huskies (9-14, 3-8 American) fall to 0-2 against ECU this season. The Pirates (17-8, 4-7 American) snap their two game losing skid.
How it Happened
UConn jumped out to an early 5-3 lead in the first set before the Pirates fought back to get on top. The Huskies could not catch ECU and the Pirates took the first set 25-19. The second set began with even, back and forth play. The Huskies, after being down 9-7, scored four straight to take an 11-9 lead. The Pirates battled back to tie the game. The teams exchanged points, still tied at 18 late in the set. ECU would go on to win the second set 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead.
The Huskies jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in set three before ECU battled back to tie the game at 6-6. Tied at the midway mark of the set, UConn scored three straight points to lead 15-12 and force an ECU timeout. The Pirates would push back and ultimately take a tightly contested third set 25-23, and the match 3-0.
Freshman Jasmine Davis led the Huskies with her third double-double of the season, with a team-high 15 digs and 11 kills, hitting .240 on the night. Sophomore Caylee Parker tallied nine kills and nine digs, while fellow sophomore Kennadie Jake-Turner recorded six kills, two blocks, and two digs. R-Sophomore Courtney Morris led the Huskies with 32 assists and added 11 digs. R-Junior Genna Florig tallied five kills, two blocks, and three digs on the night.
