HARTFORD, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team competed in an intense defensive battle with Memphis Friday afternoon at Dillon Stadium. The Huskies battled for 94 minutes, and an early scoring chance, however, could not find the back of the goal as the Tigers handed UConn a tough, 1-0 loss in conference play.
UConn had a chance to strike first in the 21', when the Huskies counter attack set up an Ahdan Tait shot attempt which unfortunately, was shut down by the Memphis netminder Parker Lackland.
The match was scoreless until the 94' when junior Alexandros Ierides beat UConn goalkeeper Gianluca Catalano and tapped in an off track shot from Michael Blanke.
Catalano kept the Huskies in the match with seven saves, including a diving grab on a front-of-the-net shot by Memphis' Gurman Sangha in the 70' to keep the game scoreless.
