HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior defender Robin Lapert scored his second goal of the season and sophomore keeper Gianluca Catalano collected four saves in net, but the Huskies fell to Providence, 2-1, in overtime Tuesday afternoon at Dillon Stadium.
The match remained deadlocked 0-0 until the 30'. After UConn knocked the ball out of bounds to set up a Providence corner, Joao Serrano sent a pass inside the box that ended up curving into the back of the net to give the Friars a 1-0 lead.
UConn found its equalizer after Lapert's header in the 50' minute of action. Ziyad Fekri's corner kick sailed into the box, and Lapert converted a header from four yards out to tie the game 1-1.
Neither team scored over the final 40 minutes of regulation, sending the game into overtime. The Huskies had two shots on goal during that stretch, but Moussa Wade and Dayonn Harris' attempts at putting the Huskies ahead were turned away.
Providence scored in the 92' minute to seal a 2-1 win.
