Men’s Basketball to Host UCF in AAC Home Opener

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's basketball team (9-5, 0-1) returns to the hardwood to take on the UCF Knights in its American Athletic Conference 2018-19 home opener on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPNews.

Opponent and Series History…
- The Huskies lead the all-time series against the Knights, 11-2. Last season's series was split, with each team winning on its home floor.
- UCF (11-2, 1-0) is coming off a 78-73 home victory over Temple Wednesday in its AAC opener, the Knights' fifth straight victory and 10th win in its last 11 games.
- Senior B.J. Taylor is UCF's leading scorer (18.0), followed by Aubrey Dawkins (15.2). Tacko Fall tops the Knights in rebounding (7.2) and blocked shots (3.3), while Terrell Allen hands out the most assists (4.8).

The Huskies dropped its AAC opener on the road to USF, 76-68. Jalen Adams led the team with 25 points, while junior Christian Vital pitched in 16. Sophomore Alterique Gilbert posted 12 points, with Eric Cobb grabbing a team-leading seven rebounds.
Leading the Pack…
Coach Dan Hurley enters his first season at the helm after he became the 19th head coach in the history of UConn men's basketball on March 22, 2018. Prior to his hiring, Hurley spent two seasons at Wagner College and six at the University of Rhode Island, and owns a collegiate coaching record of 153- 105 (.593). He is coming off two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and last season was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year.

UConn will be back on campus to play host to SMU in an American Athletic Conference game at Gampel Pavilion on Thursday, Jan. 10. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff and will be televised by the CBS Sports Network.
