STORRS, Conn. -- The UConn women's lacrosse team drops to 0-2 in Big East play after losing to Georgetown 14-6 at home on Saturday.
The Huskies are now 3-6 overall after Saturday's loss to the Hoyas. Georgetown is undefeated 2-0 in league games and improves to 4-6 overall.
After five scoreless minutes to start the game, UConn got off to a 2-0 lead with seniors Molly O'Reilly (South Salem, N.Y.) and Jacqueline Jordan (Los Gatos, Calif.) scoring within 30 seconds of each other around the 24 minute mark. Jordan finished the day with two goals.
The Hoyas outscored the Huskies 6-1 in the remainder of the first half to take a 6-3 lead into halftime. After Georgetown took its first lead 3-2, senior Ally Tilley (Setauket, N.Y.) evened the score up 3-3, but that was the last goal UConn saw in the first half.
UConn's momentum was halted after the refs called off a game-tying goal for the Huskies for a failed stick check. Georgetown went on to score two unanswered to carry a three-goal lead into the break.
Junior and leading scorer Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) got on the board for the Huskies at the start of the second half to keep the score within three after Georgetown scored 13 seconds into to second frame.
After Nolan took a hard fall and was escorted off the field, senior Emily Giumetti (Duxbury, Mass.) scored on a free position 10 minutes into the second to put the score at 5-8 in favor of the Hoyas. Nolan eventually returned to the game, but was later confined to bench after receiving her second yellow card of the day with just over 10 minutes to go in the second.
In déjàvu of the first half, UConn was outscored again 6-1 by Georgetown in the back half of the second stanza to ultimately fall to the Hoyas 14-6.
