Evans' Accuracy Leads Huskies Past Tulane

STORRS, Conn. - Senior Camille Evans had her best match of the season with 16 kills on Sunday afternoon, helping the UConn volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over Tulane in Gampel Pavilion.
The Huskies (11-2, 2-0 American) won the third and fourth sets to seal their second conference win in the past three days. The final score against the Green Wave (9-5, 1-1 American) was 25-20, 18-25, 25-14, 25-23.
Evans delivered a career-high 16 kills on just 29 total attacks, recording a match-high .517 hitting percentage. She had at least four kills in each of the last three sets.
Junior Kenya Cason and redshirt freshman Kayla Williams both recorded double-doubles; Cason had 13 digs with 13 kills and Williams had 10 digs with 12 kills. For Williams, it is her 11th-straight match with double-digit kills.
The Huskies used a 6-1 run to get some separation in the first set, holding a lead by as many as six points before a kill be Evans won the set. In the second set, the Green Wave fought back with a .421 team hitting percentage to tie the match.
Coming out of the intermission, UConn stated fast by winning 10 of the first 14 points. With a 13-10 lead, the Huskies got five straight points - including two kills by Williams - to extend the lead and cruise to a 2-1 sets advantage.
Cason had seven kills in a tightly-contested fourth set, including the match-winner on a 24-23 point. Senior Rebecca Rivera and sophomore Emma Turner each had eight assists in the final set.
Rivera had a team-high 31 assists on Sunday, while sophomore Elizabeth Kline had 11 digs. Sophomore Kennedy Arundel added three service aces.
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday to host Temple at 5 p.m. (ET) as American Athletic Conference play rolls on.
