UConn Remains Perfect in Conference Play

MILWAUKEE -Three hat tricks from three Huskies helped the UConn women's lacrosse team outlast Marquette 15-13 on Saturday at Valley Fields, which makes the Huskies a perfect 3-0 in Big East contests this season.
Senior Alexandra Crofts (Westport, Conn.) and junior Maggie Tripodi (Syracuse, N.Y.) both finished with four goals on the day and sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) tallied three.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) kept the Huskies in it, coming up with seven big saves in the second half. She finished with ten total saves, four groundballs and one caused turnover.
Despite being down 2-0 at the start, UConn went on a 6-1 run with two goals each from Crofts and Tripodi to claim a 6-3 lead 13:25 into the first half. Nolan and junior Jacqueline Jordan (Los Gatos, Calif.) added UConn's other two tallies.
Marquette scored five unanswered goals to overtake the Huskies 8-6. Junior Ally Tilley (Setauket, N.Y.) put one in the back of the net to bring UConn to within one goal, 8-7, and Crofts tied the score up at eight with her third goal of the first half.
The Golden Eagles tried to take a 9-8 advantage into the break, but senior Alyson Fazio (Methuen, Mass.) grabbed another equalizer for UConn and the game remained tied 9-9 going into halftime. Fazio finished with four total points (2g, 2a).
The second half got off to a similar start as Marquette scored two quick goals to go up 11-9 before UConn went on a six-goal tear take the largest lead of the afternoon. Crofts and Tripodi tallied their fourth and final goals of the day while Nolan grabbed two of the six to earn UConn its third hat trick of the afternoon.
With the Huskies up 15-11 with 15:10 left to play in the game, Marquette tried to battle back, but Nee and UConn defense were able to take away any chances. The Golden Eagles kept the score close, netting two goals in the last three minutes to leave the final score at 15-13.
UConn improves to 9-2 overall with a perfect 3-0 slate in conference play, while Marquette drops to 4-8 and an even 1-1 in Big East games.
