BALTIMORE - The UConn women's lacrosse team closes out its regular season schedule on the road with a non-conference match against No. 20 Towson on Sunday, May 1 at noon at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
The Huskies are 12-3 entering Sunday's contest after recording their third loss of the season to No. 2 Florida this past weekend. UConn's 6-1 conference record earned the team the No. 2 seed in the Big East Championship tournament, behind Florida who went 7-0 in Big East games.
Sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) currently leads the Huskies with 56 points (41g, 15a), followed by leading goal scorer, senior Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) with 48 points (43g, 5a) and junior Jacqueline Jordan with 32 (17g, 15a).
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) has started in all 15 games for UConn and has recorded a program-high 12 wins this season. Her 151 saves this season give her the top save percentage in conference (.522) and leaves her tied for seventh nationally.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Towson is also 12-3 overall heading into the match-up with UConn. The Tigers recently snapped their six-game win streak with an 11-9 loss to James Madison last Sunday, but claimed part of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season title as they finished tied with the Dukes.
Leading goal scorer, sophomore Kaitlyn Montalbano currently leads Towson with 43 points (28g, 15a) followed by freshman Carly Tellecamp with 25 points (22g, 3a) and two players, freshman Natalie Sulmonte (19g, 3a) and sophomore Emily Gillingham (18g, 4a), who are both tied with 22.
Freshman goalkeeper Angie Benson has started in all 15 contests for the Tigers, recording 80 saves so far this season for a .460 save percentage and a 6.66 goals against average.
THE SERIES
UConn trails Towson in the all-time series 1-4. The two haven't met since 2006, where Towson walked away with a 16-13 decision on its home turf in Baltimore.
