WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - A dominant first half led the UConn women's lacrosse team to a 13-6 victory over William & Mary Wednesday to improve to 5-1 overall on the season. Junior Jacqueline Jordan (Los Gatos, Calif.) finished with six points (3g, 3a) and senior Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) led the scoring with five goals.
Finkelston and fellow senior, captain Alexandra Crofts (Westport, Conn.) dictated the start of the game, alternating goals until UConn held a 6-0 lead. Finkelston added two more goals to finish the first 30 minutes with five total.
Jordan and sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) joined in on the scoring in the last ten minutes of the first half. Jordan scored on a free position shot with 6:41 on the clock and Nolan tallied two goals in the last five minutes.
The Huskies did not allow a goal in the first half to take a commanding 11-0 lead into halftime. The UConn defense held the Tribe to just one shot on goal in the entire first half. Junior Maggie Tripodi (Syracuse, N.Y.) tallied three assists in the first half.
William & Mary came out with four unanswered goals to start the second half, which put the score at 11-4.
Over 10 minutes had expired in the second half before UConn could once again get on the board. Jordan scored back-to-back goals, which were UConn's only points in the second half, to finish the game with three goals and three assists.
The Tribe put in two more goals around the five minute mark to seal the final score at 13-6. Senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) finished with nine saves for the Huskies, eight of which came in the second half.
