UConn Takes Down Fairfield 18-8 Saturday

STORRS, Conn. - Six goals from sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) and five from senior Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) helped the UConn women's lacrosse team breeze past Fairfield 18-8 Saturday at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies improve to 6-1 overall while the Stags drop to an even 4-4 record. Nolan led the team with nine points (6g, 3a) followed by Finkelston with six points (5g, 1a).
Despite the game being tied 2-2 just over ten minutes in, UConn scored six goals and held Fairfield to just two scores to take an 8-4 lead going into halftime. Nolan and Finkelston both had three goals in the first half.
Junior Maggie Tripodi (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season with 4:23 left on the clock in the first half, and senior captain Alexandra Crofts (Westport, Conn.) rounded out UConn's first half scorers.
Fairfield came out in the second half and scored back-to-back goals in the first five minutes to bring the Stags to within two goals and make it 8-6. UConn retaliated by scoring seven unanswered goals to secure a 15-6 lead with 16 minutes left to play.
Nolan and Finkelston were each responsible for two goals in the seven-goal tear and Crofts added another goal to her tally.
Junior Jacqueline Jordan (Los Gatos, Calif.) earned herself a five-point performance, scoring two goals and adding three assists into the mix. Senior Alexa Bonnes (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) closed out the scoring after she netted her first goal of the season with exactly two minutes left on the clock.
Fairfield managed to put up two more goals on the board, but UConn came out on top 18-8.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) finished with 12 saves against Fairfield to bring her season total to 69 saves.

The Huskies open Big East conference play Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. when they host Villanova at the Sherman Complex in Storrs.
