UConn Records First Loss Against UMass

STORRS, Conn. - The No. 20/18 UConn women's lacrosse team recorded its first loss of the season against ARV/ARV UMass in a 15-6 deficit on Saturday at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
UConn drops to a 4-1 overall record this season while UMass improves to 5-1 in its 2016 schedule.
UMass scored nine unanswered goals to start the game, four of them coming from leading scorer Erika Eipp. UConn finally got up on the scoreboard with five minutes remaining in the first half with a goal from senior Alexandra Crofts (Westport, Conn.).
Senior Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) added another for UConn with just over a minute left in the first, but the Huskies still trailed the Minutewomen 12-2 going into halftime.
UMass opened the scoring just over two minutes into the second half to make it 13-2, but sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) earned her 15th goal of the season to bring the Huskies back to a 10-goal spread.
The Huskies held the Minutewomen to just two more goals in the last half of the game, before putting up three unanswered goals on the UConn side to end the game 15-6. Senior captain Alyson Fazio (Methuen, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals for UConn in the last 10 minutes of the game.
Finkelston tallied her second of the game and 19th of the season with two seconds left on the clock to make the final score 15-6.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) finished with nine saves against UMass to bring her season total to 50 saves.
