STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut junior M.E. Lapham (Cazenovia, N.Y.) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week this afternoon after leading UConn to a pair of conference victories last week. Lapham earns the second player of the week honor of her career and the first of the season, while she is the second Husky to earn a conference accolade this year; Mackenzie Rainone, Defensive Player of the Week, Feb. 28.
Last week, Lapham led the Huskies to their first BIG EAST victory of the year as she tallied a season-high seven points on five goals and two assists against Cincinnati (April 21). She followed that up with a second-straight five-goal performance against Louisville (April 23), as UConn notched back-to-back conference victories. The junior attacker also collected six draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover during the two games last week.
In Saturday's 14-12 victory over Louisville she notched her 50th goal of the season, which sets a UConn record for goals in a season, previously held by Pam Lowie who tallied 48 during the 2000 season. She also ranks fourth with 116 career goals and sixth with 116 career points, while she is just one of four conference players to tally 50 or more goals this year.
Sophomore Brittney Testa (Bridgewater, Vt.) also earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after posting a combined 19 saves in last week's contests. Testa has now tallied 10 or more saves in five games this year after posting 10 against Louisville, while she notched her 100th save of the season against Cincinnati.
The Huskies will close out the regular season this week, as they travel to Villanova for a 6:00 p.m. contest on Friday (April 29) and to Loyola for a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday (May 1).
