Men's Golf Places Fifth In Season Opener

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 18, 2004) - Jason Parajeckas tied for eighth overall to lead the University of Connecticut men’s golf team to a solid fifth place showing in the season-opening Rutgers Invitational this weekend in Piscataway, New Jersey. Eight teams competed in the event which Rutgers won with a two-round score of 564 (-4). UConn’s 587 (+19) ranked ahead of conference foes St. John’s (588, +20), Seton Hall (595, +27) and Villanova (603, +35).
Parajeckas led the way for the Huskies with a 143 (+1), which included a two-under 69 in the second round, tying him for the second best score on the day out of the 44-golfer field. Geoffrey Reilert tied for 11th overall with a 144 (+2) in his UConn debut, shooting matching rounds of 72. Jordan Burke tied for 26th overall with a 151 (+9), followed by Justin Ciombor who tied for 29th with a 152 (+10). Dan White was fifth for UConn with a score of 158 (+17).
UConn will return to action Sept. 24-25 when the team heads to Long Island for The McLaughlin at Bethpage.
