Huskies Take On The GOAT This Weekend

STORRS, CT – The UConn golf team returns to play this weekend taking part in The Goat, hosted by Navy at the Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, MD.
This is year three of the event hosted by the Midshipmen at the private university course that will play to 6,970 yards and par 71. The Huskies are one of 13 teams at this weekend's three-round, 54-hole event that will feature the first two rounds on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday.
UConn will take on host Navy along with Binghamton, Bucknell, Colgate, Georgetown, George Washington, Holy Cross, Howard, Lafayette, Maryland Eastern Shore, Saint Joseph's, and William & Mary.
The Huskies played in this event last fall and finished fourth in a 16-team field. Juniors Matt Costello (Taunton, MA) and Kai-Jun Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) both played the event with Costello coming in 15th overall (218) and Huang coming in tied for 24th (221).
UConn is coming off a rain shortened tournament last weekend in their season opener. The Huskies took part in the Doc Gimmler Invitational at the Bethpage State Park Red Course, and were 13th after two rounds before rain ended the event early. Sophomore Brennan Korn (Flagstaff, AZ) was the top finisher in 26th overall with a 143 (70-73).
The Husky lineup this weekend will feature Korn at the top followed by Huang, fifth year Justin Burroughs (Pensacola, FL), sophomore Matthew Oliveira (Dartmouth, MA), and freshman RJ Shieh (Taipei, Tawain) who will make his collegiate debut. Costello will play as an individual.
Following this weekend's event the Huskies will prepare to host their annual tournament, the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse on September 27-29.
