Kai-Jun Huang Wins The Goat in A Playoff

ANNAPOLIS, MD – UConn junior Kai-Jun Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) took home the individual championship at this weekend's The Goat tournament at the U.S. Naval Academy. Huang finished in a three-way tie for the top spot on the leaderboard and claimed the individual trophy after winning a playoff.
Huang finished with a three-round score of 211, tying with Georgetown's Carson Erick and William & Mary's Preston Burton for first place after 54-holes leading to a playoff. All three made par over the first two playoff holes sending it to a third at the ninth hole. Huang knocked it to within eight-feet and buried the birdie putt to claim the title.
It was Huang's second collegiate individual title of his career. During his freshman season at Merrimack he won the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational.
He shot a 66, five-under, on the par 71, 6,935 yard Naval Academy course during round one on Saturday morning. He came back in the afternoon and carded a 74 and finished Sunday's final round at even par 71. His opening round 66 was a low-round mark of his career at UConn.
Huang and the rest of the Huskies finished the event in sixth place in the 15 team field. The Huskies finished with an 876 (+24) team score on the weekend. UConn shot 289 in the open round and then 295 and 292 to close it out. George Washington won the team title, finishing three strokes ahead of Georgetown.
Junior Matt Costello (Taunton, MA), playing in his first event of the season and as an individual, finished tied for sixth overall, shooting 213 (E) for the tournament. He shot 69 over round one, 73 in round two and even par 71 on Sunday.
Sophomore Brennan Korn (Flagstaff, AZ) was also in the top-20, tying for 12th with a 216 (+3). Korn was two-under (69) in round one and finished out with a 73 and 74 in rounds two and three.
Rounding out the UConn lineup was sophomore Matthew Oliveria (Dartmouth, MA) in 50th (76-78-72=228), fifth year Justin Burroughs (Pensacola, FL) in 55th (78-71-79=228) and freshman RJ Shieh (Taipei, Taiwan) in 64th (80-77-75=232).
The Huskies are set to host their annual tournament, the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse on September 27-29.
