STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (2-2-4) finished non-conference action with a 0-0 draw against Vermont (3-4-3) on a rainy Friday night at Morrone Stadium.
UConn dominated the opportunities on Friday, out-shooting Vermont 17-4 and did not allow a single shot on goal as the Huskies had a 6-0 edge in that area. The Huskies also earned 10 corner kicks while not relinquishing one on the defensive end.ย
Se-Hanna Mars, Maree-Anne Van Doesburg and Chloe Shimkin tied for the team lead with three shots on goal. Mars had the a couple quality opportunities with a turnaround shot inside the box in the 38th minute that the junior pushed wide.
The Manchester, Conn. native also had a great chance in the waning moments of regulation by taking a deflection, off a Catamount's defender, inside the box and firing a shot on goal that the Catamounts keeper made a leaping save on in the 87th minute.ย
Outside of Mars' shot in the 87th minute, the Huskies had a prime chance to grab the lead in the 43rd minute on a great find by Tea Reyes. The fifth-year senior slid a perfect pass to Alayna Taylor inside the box that Taylor took one touchย and tried to slot home past a sprawling keeper. But her go was knocked away on a dive and the Huskies came up empty.ย
Friday did mark the return of 2025 First Team All-BIG EAST midfielder Anaya Johnson, who played seven minutes in her first match play of the season.
