Huskies Finish Ninth at UConn Invite at GreatHorse

HAMPDEN, MA - The UConn Huskies finished ninth overall at the 17th annual UConn Invitational at GreatHorse. The event was shortened to 36-holes due to the weekend rain, concluding with the final round on Tuesday at GreatHorse.
The Huskies finished the two-rounds with a team score of 611 (+35) on the par-72 course set at 7,093 yards. UConn shot 311 during Sunday's first round and on Tuesday finished with a score of 300.
The Rhode Island Rams were this year's champion, besting the field by 11 strokes to take home the trophy. The Rams shot a team score of 578 (+2) to stay ahead of Boston College who finished at 589 (+13). URI's Tony Liu was the individual champion, winning by five strokes with a score of 137 (-7).
The Huskies were led by fifth-year Justin Burroughs (Pensacola, FL) who had his best day as a Husky recording a top-10 finish. Burroughs tied for ninth place on the leaderboard, shooting a two-round score of 147 (+3). On Sunday he shot a 74 and followed with a 73 on Tuesday.
Sophomore Brennan Korn (Flagstaff, AZ) was tied for 30th shooting 152 with a 77 on Sunday and a75 on Tuesday. Rounding out the UConn top-five were juniors Kai-Jun Huang (Taipei, Taiwan) in 53rd (155), Caden Blanchette (Manchester, PA) in 66th (157) and Matt Costello (Taunton, MA) in 81st (161).
UConn had four individuals in the tournament led by freshman Yves Koller (Zurich, Switzerland) who was 30th (152), sophomore Brayden Jenard (Jupiter, FL) in 47th (154), sophomore Matthew Oliveira (Dartmouth, MA) in 53rd (155) and freshman RJ Shieh (Taipei, Taiwan) in 66th (157).
The Huskies will be right back in action on October 5-6 when they take part in the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational hosted by West Virginia at the Mystic Rock Golf Course in Farmington, PA.
