WSOC Suffers Defeat at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The UConn women's soccer team (1-1-2) suffered its first defeat of the season, 1-0, at Brown (2-1) on Thursday night at Stevenson-Pincince Stadium.
Goalkeeper Lily Onorato tied a season-high with five saves on the night including four in the first half to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
The Huskies some quality opportunities to get on the scoresheet in the first half.
Freshman Maeve Staunton settled down a high ball down to her left foot and unleashed a rocket towards the upper left-hand corner of goal but the ball just sailed high past the bar.
Se-Hanna Mars followed by creating a quality chance in the 37th minute. The Manchester, Conn. Native maneuvered around her defender in the box and curled her shot wide.
Brown captured the lead in the 58th minute on a perfectly placed long distance shot from Angelina Vargas.
The Huskies earned a late corner kick in the 83rd minute that led to an equalizing opportunity for Emily Hanrahan that sailed wide.
The Bears finished the night out-shooting the Huskies 12-6.
Next up, the Huskies return home against Long Island on Sunday, September 6 at 1 p.m.
