STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The UConn women's soccer team (0-0-1) rallied twice during its season opening match at Stony Brook (0-0-1) to secure a 2-2 draw at Lavelle Stadium on the campus of Stony Brook University.
The Huskies had to work out of a 1-0 hole after UConn conceded a penalty in the box that led to an 11th minute tally for Stony Brook.
At the 14:00 minute mark, the Huskies conceded another penalty inside their box, but this time, freshman Lily Onorato (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), in her collegiate debut, made a kick save on the penalty to keep the Huskies down, 1-0.
After the halftime break the Huskies were able to respond in the 48th minute. Senior Alayna Taylor (Glastonbury, CT) launched a long distance strike that rocketed past a sprawling attempt from the Seawolves keeper and got UConn to level terms.
Stony Brook reclaimed the lead in the 79th minute to put the Huskies behind the eight ball for a second time.
The Huskies were up for another response with sophomore Ines Nourani (Boischatel, Quebec) scoring her first career goal in the 83rd minute to knot the game up at two. Nourani had a career-night with a goal and an assist.
In her first collegiate match, Anya Montano (Bellingham, Mass.) tallied a pair of assists while junior Chloe Shimkin (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) notched an assist in her first career match at UConn.
The Huskies outshot the Seawolves 21-10 on the night and 14-7 shots on goal.
Next up, the Huskies head home for their home opener on Thursday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m. against Rutgers.
