STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (0-0-2) battled to a 0-0 draw against Rutgers (0-1-1) on Thursday night at Morrone Stadium.
The match featured a steady rain with parts of the game played in a downpour which made for tricky conditions.
Both teams created a couple opportunities to break the stalemate but ultimately the game remained scoreless.
Freshman Lily Onorato (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) registered her first career save for the Huskies with a couple saves on the night including a big time stop with just under eight minutes to go. The Scarlet Knights created a transition opportunity which allowed for a shot at the top of the box but the UConn keeper made a sprawling save to keep the game tied.
In the first half, the Huskies had their best opportunity courtesy junior Gabby Miller. The former Scarlet Knight, who was making her first career start, received a pass inside the box from Ines Nourani and fired a shot but the Rutgers keeper was able to make a sliding save.
UConn had the majority of its chances in the second half with Nourani on the receiving end of a centering pass from Emily Hanrahan. Nourani took a one touch shot in the just outside the six but her shot was parried away.
Moments earlier, Maree-Anne Van Doesburg fired a shot from outside the box that just curled over the top of the bar, past the leap of the Scarlet Knights keeper.
Se-Hanna Mars provided a free kick opportunity from just outside the box, putting a shot on goal that was knocked away.
The two sides were all square with seven shots a piece and the Huskies held a slim 7-6 edge in corner kicks earned.
Next up, the Huskies remain at Morrone Stadium for a matchup with the Boston University Terriers on Sunday, August 23 at 7 p.m.
