UConn Rowing Closes Regular Season at Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – The UConn rowing team competed Sunday at the Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond, facing a highly competitive field that included Brown, Rutgers, Radcliffe, Dartmouth, Northeastern, and Columbia. Racing took place over 2000 meters as the Huskies battled through morning heats into afternoon racing, posting solid efforts across all boats.
In the Varsity Eight, UConn finished fifth in its heat with a time of 6:45.687 before improving in the afternoon, placing second in its race with a time of 6:48.414, finishing behind Boston College. The Second Varsity Eight recorded a time of 6:54.204 in the morning heat and followed it up with a third-place finish, clocking 6:56.750. UConn's Third Varsity Eight posted a time of 6:55.600 in its heat and recorded a 7:05.999 in the afternoon to finish fourth. In the Varsity Four, the Huskies placed third in their heat with a time of 7:30.798 and later finished sixth with a time of 7:38.452, while the second Varsity Four rounded out the day with a time of 7:51.012 in the morning and a fifth-place finish in the afternoon with a time of 7:51.970.
"Finishing up our regular season at the Eastern Sprints, we continue to show positive signs that we are getting faster. Going into finals week we'll have a big technique push as we prepare for the CAA championship in two weeks," said head coach Jennifer Sanford.
The Huskies will return to action in two weeks at the CAA Championship as the Huskies shift their focus to postseason racing.
