Huskies Score 13 Unanswered Runs to Take Game One at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The UConn softball team came back from a 6-1 deficit to take the series opener at Georgetown, 14-6 on Friday afternoon from the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex. The Huskies improve to 16-6 in BIG EAST play and 26-25 overall this season.
Freshman Caprice Bohmer made her 22nd start of the season in the series opener for the Huskies. Bohmer went 4.0 innings in the circle, giving up two earned runs on six hits, adding a strikeout.
Georgetown jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the 1st inning and one run in the 2nd inning, giving the Hoyas a 3-0 advantage.
UConn got on the board in the top of the 3rd inning off the bat of Savannah Ring as she ripped a double to left center field, scoring pinch runner Isabella Lundquist from third base to make it 3-1.
Georgetown extended their lead in the bottom of the 4th inning, plating three runs to push the Hoyas lead to 6-1.
UConn's offense erupted for seven runs in the top of the 5th inning, sending 11 batters to the plate to give the Huskies their first lead of the game at 8-6. Kaitlyn Kibling jump started the rally with a double to left field, scoring Caylee De Meo and Heidi Barber. Two batters later, Haley Coupal delivered a double into the left center field gap, scoring Kibling and Ring to make it a one-run game, 6-5. Emma Willers gave UConn the lead for good with a two-out single to right field, scoring Coupal and Ava Calciano. De Meo capped off the Huskies big inning with her second double of the game, a towering shot off the top of the wall in left field, scoring Willers from second base to give UConn a two-run advantage, 8-6.
Graduate Jessica Walter came on in relief for Bohmer in the 5th inning, making her team-leading 35th appearance of the season. Walter was dominant out of the bullpen, retiring six of the eight batters she faced, giving up just one hit to the Hoyas across 2.1 innings.
Kaitlyn Breslin added a pair of runs to UConn's lead in the top of the 6th inning with a single to right center field, scoring Cat Petteys and Coupal to make it 10-6.
Coupal broke the game open in the top of the 7th inning with a grand slam to center field, her first home run of the season, ballooning UConn's lead to 14-6.
Sophomore Alexandra Bacher came on in relief for Walter during the 7th inning, making her 15th appearance this season. Bacher locked down the final two outs of the game, securing the series opener for the Huskies.

- Haley Coupal drove in a career high six RBI, topping her previous game high set last season against Georgetown (5 RBI on April 25). She hit her first home run of the season and notched her 10th multi-hit game this year, pushing her on base streak to ten straight games.
- Kaitlyn Kibling has reached base safely in 19 straight games. She recorded her sixth multi-RBI game this season.
- Caylee De Meo went 2-3 recording a game high two doubles.
- Kaitlyn Breslin recorded her team-leading 15th multi-RBI game this season.
- Emma Willers recorded her ninth multi-RBI game in her rookie season.
- Savannah Ring recorded her 16th multi-hit game this season. She reached base in four of her five plate appearances.
- Cat Petteys has reached base safely in nine straight games.
- Caprice Bohmer earned her team-leading 11th win of the season.
