SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The UConn baseball team (18-16) defeated Bryant, 6-2, on a cold afternoon at Conaty Park on Tuesday afternoon.Â
The turning point of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Paxton Meyers came out of the pen with the Huskies down 2-1. With runners at second and third and one out, Meyers kept it a one-run game with a strikeout and a ground out.
The Huskies immediately responded with the bats by loading the bases in the sixth. Rob Rispoli delivered a sacrifice fly to right to tie the game at 2. Moments later, Nater Wachter came home to score on a wild pitch to put the Huskies ahead.Â
Meyers dealt out of the bullpen for the Huskies with 4.2 shutout innings, allowed just three hits, zero walks and punched out four.
UConn provided insurance in the ninth inning with an RBI double from Cam Righi and then took advantage of an error to score two more runs and push the lead to 6-2.
Charlie Hale got the start for UConn and pitched 3.0 innings of one-run ball.Â
Tyler Minick provided an RBI single in the top of the third that tied the game at 1.
Next up, the Huskies travel to Indianapolis this weekend for a three-game BIG EAST series against Butler.Â
