Huskies Power Past Hofstra

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team defeated the Hofstra Pride, 11-3 in a five-inning run rule victory on Wednesday afternoon at Burrill Family Field. The Huskies improve to 23-24 overall this season.
Freshman Caprice Bohmer made her 20th start of the season for the Huskies. Bohmer tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, keeping the Pride hitless while adding three strikeouts. She earned her team-leading 11th win of the season.
UConn jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the 1st inning off the bat of Cat Petteys as the sophomore slugger hit her 16th home run of the season, a solo shot to left field, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
Redshirt-junior Sydnee Koosh came on in relief for Bohmer in the 3rd inning, making her 20th appearance of the season for the Huskies. Koosh went 2.0 innings giving up one run on two hits, adding three strikeouts.
UConn extended its lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning, adding three runs to make it 4-0. The top of the Huskies order loaded the bases, setting up the middle of the order to do damage. Savannah Ring scored from third base on a wild pitch, doubling the UConn lead. Later in the inning, Haley Coupal delivered a two-out double to left center field, scoring Pettey's and Kaitlyn Breslin.
Hofstra got on the board in the top of the 4th inning with a run, making it 4-1.
UConn responded in the bottom of the 4th inning, plating three runs on three hits to balloon the lead to 7-1. Ring scored the first run of the inning with a double, scoring Heidi Barber from third. Petteys struck once again with her second home run of the game, a two-run shot down the left field line, giving her 17 homers on the year. This marks Petteys third multi-home run game of the season.
Hofstra trimmed into UConn's lead in the top of the 5th inning off a two-run home run, making it a four-run game at 7-3.
UConn's offense yet again had an answer for Hofstra, as the Huskies scored four runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, ending the game in a run-rule at 11-3. The bottom of UConn's lineup loaded the bases, setting the stage for the big inning. Barber plated the first run, working a bases loaded walk, scoring Emma Willers from third base. The next batter, Kaitlyn Kibling delivered a single to right field, scoring Bella Cruz from third and moving all runners up a base. Ring kept the rally going with a ground out to second base, scoring Isabella Lundquist. Breslin ended the game with a walk-off walk, scoring Barber and giving the Huskies their third straight out of conference victory.

- Cat Petteys posted her third multi-home run game this season, giving her a team high 17 homers this year. This is Pettey's 15th multi-hit and 11th multi-RBI game this season. She has recorded a hit in five straight games.
- Kaitlyn Kibling has reached base safely in 15 straight games.
