Huskies Welcome Creighton to Storrs for Pivotal Three Game Series

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (23-24) is set to host the Creighton Bluejays at Burrill Family Field for a three-game series this weekend in Storrs. The series will begin on Friday, April 24 at 3:00pm. Game two is set for Saturday, April 25 at 4:00pm. The series will conclude on Sunday, April 26 at 12:00pm. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
UConn is coming off two consecutive run-rule victories over Providence (Apr. 18) and Hofstra (Apr. 22). The Huskies are currently two games out of first place in the BIG EAST standings with a 13-5 conference record. FULL STANDINGS
This season, UConn has six players hitting above .300 in BIG EAST play in Cat Petteys (.439), Savannah Ring (.382), Ava Calciano (.371), Haley Coupal (.352), Kaitlyn Kibling (.327), and Kaitlyn Breslin (.302). As a team, the Huskies are hitting .315 across their 18 BIG EAST games, slugging a conference high 25 home runs. UConn's 124 runs scored in league play ranks second behind Creighton (157).
UConn's pitching staff leads the conference in ERA (3.50), strikeouts (91), and shutouts (2) across 18 BIG EAST games this season. Graduate Jessica Walter leads the conference in ERA with a 2.04 across 34.1 innings pitched. She has appeared in 14 of UConn's 18 conference games this season. Walter leads the BIG EAST with seven saves. Her eight saves this season ranks second nationally.
A Look at Creighton
The Creighton Bluejays (26-21) are coming off a series sweep at St. John's last weekend and have won their last four consecutive games. The Bluejays currently sit in second place in the BIG EAST standings with a 14-4 conference record. Creighton is coached by Krista Wood in her fourth season. This season, the Bluejays have been powered by their offense, leading the conference in batting average (.315), doubles (74), runs scored (307), and stolen bases (113). Creighton has seven players hitting above .300, led by sophomore catcher Tara Vandewater (.387).
Series History
These two programs last met in the BIG EAST Championship game a season ago, where the Huskies delivered a dominant 18-4 five-inning run-rule victory to capture the program's eighth BIG EAST Tournament title. In 2025, the two teams faced off five times, including two meetings in the BIG EAST Tournament, both resulting in run-rule wins for UConn. The Huskies also secured the regular season series in Omaha, winning two out of three games, highlighted by a 22-18 slugfest, the highest scoring game in the NCAA in 2025. Under head coach Laura Valentino, UConn is 15-4 against the Bluejays (since 2021). The Huskies lead the all-time series, 15-5.
Senior Day Honors
After the conclusion of Saturday's contest the Huskies will honor four departing seniors along with their families, Haley Coupal, Kaitlyn Kibling, Savannah Ring, and Jessica Walter.
