STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team (13-22) is set to host the Villanova Wildcats at Burrill Family Field for a three-game series this weekend in Storrs. The series will begin on Friday, April 3 with a doubleheader starting at 3:00pm. The series will conclude on Saturday, April 4 at 3:00pm. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
UConn is coming off a series sweep of DePaul a weekend ago and have won five of their last six games. The Huskies currently sit in fourth place in the BIG EAST standings with a 6-3 conference record. FULL STANDINGS
Senior infielder Savannah Ring had a stellar week at the plate, resulting in her being named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. In six games last week, Ring led the Huskies with a .545 batting average, recording 12 hits, three being extra base hits, with six RBI and eight runs scored. She is carrying an eight-game hit streak into the weekend. Freshman utility Emma Willers has also been red hot at the plate for the Huskies, earning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors for the first time in her career. Willers hit .467 in six games last week, posting two doubles, two home runs, and nine RBI.
In the circle, freshman Caprice Bohmer leads the Huskies staff in wins (5), game started (14), complete games (6), innings pitched (79.1), and strikeouts (89). Bohmer was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after posting a 2.00 era across 21.0 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts. She appeared in all six games last week, holding opposing batters to a staggering .187 batting average.
A Look at Villanova
The Villanova Wildcats (8-27) are coming off a series win over Georgetown. Villanova is currently in sixth place in the BIG EAST standings with a 4-8 conference record. The Wildcats are coached by Bridget Orchard in her eighth season. This season, Villanova has been led by senior Maddie Burrows.
Series History
UConn was victorious in last year's regular season series against Villanova, taking two games out of three. Under head coach, Laura Valentino, the Huskies are 9-12 against the Wildcats (since 2021). UConn leads the all-time series, 50-14.
