Beran Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

STORRS, Conn. – For the third time this season, UConn junior defender Abby Beran has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced in a release on Monday afternoon.

Beran anchored the UConn defense to a 12-8 win over UMass on Saturday. The New York native had five ground balls, caused five turnovers, and had three draw controls. Beran also scored the second goal of her collegiate career to cap off the victory for the Huskies.

Beran has dominated on the defensive end for the Huskies this season, leading the nation in ground balls per game (5.50) and ranking third in the country in caused turnovers per game (3.50).

UConn returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 pm against No. 6 Yale in New Haven.
