STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (14-14, 2-0 BIG EAST) clinched a BIG EAST series with an 8-0 shutout against Xavier (8-20) on a brutally cold Saturday afternoon at Elliot Ballpark.

Sophomore LHP Cayden Suchy stole the show for the Huskies with a career-high 8.0 shutout innings in his first career start at Elliot Ballpark. The Sterling, Va. limited the Musketeers to just one hit and struck out 10 en route to his first win of the year.

Suchy did not allow a hit until Jonathan Fitz singled with one out in the seventh inning.

UConn scored all the runs they would need in the second with solo home runs from Jackson Marshall and Evan Menzel to make it 2-0.

Sophomore Gaby Tirado doubled the lead for the Huskies in the fifth with a two-run double down the right field line.

Nater Wachter put together a big game with a three-hit day including an RBI single in the sixth and added a solo home run in the 8th.

Marshall, Menzel and Chris Polemeni joined Wachter with multi-hit days.

Next up, the Huskies look to go for the sweep on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Game Notes

The Huskies pitched their third shutout of the season on Saturday. It is the first time UConn has had three or more shutouts in a year since they registered four during the 2024 season.
Cayden Suchy (8 IP) and Joe Talarico (1 IP) combined to allow just one hit on Saturday, it is the first time UConn has thrown a one-hitter since April 20, 2022 when the Huskies one-hit Boston College in an 8-0 victory at Elliot Ballpark.
The Huskies clinched their first series win at Elliot Ballpark in 2026, UConn has won all 23 series they have played at Elliot (Opened 2021).
