HookC Begins BIG EAST vs. Xavier

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn baseball team (12-14) begins BIG EAST Conference play with a three-game home series against Xavier (8-18) beginning Friday, March 27 at 3:05 p.m. Saturday's start time has been pushed up to a 1:05 p.m. first pitch and the series finale is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.Â
Since the Huskies rejoined the BIG EAST in 2021, UConn is 14-12 against the Musketeers. Last year the Huskies went 2-3 against Xavier with a series loss in Cincinnati and then split the two meetings in the BIG EAST Championship.Â
UConn posted a 17-4 record in the BIG EAST regular season last year with series losses to Xavier and Creighton. The Huskies rattled off 15 consecutive BIG EAST victories to earn a split of the regular season title. The Huskies have shared or taken the outright BIG EAST regular season title in five-straight seasons.
Entering the series, LHP Cayden Suchy leads the BIG EAST Conference with 43 strikeouts while Xavier ace Ryan Peich sits right behind him in second with 40 punch outs on the year.Â
UConn RHP Charlie Hale is tied for the league lead with four wins and leads the conference with 1.53 ERA.Â
Offensively, Chris Polemeni (.375) and Cam Righi (.369) rank third and fourth respectively in batting average while Polemeni's 11 stolen bases is third most in the league.Â
Josh Stonehouse for the Musketeers is tied for fourth with Jackson Marshall in the BIG EAST with seven home runs.Â
