SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The UConn baseball team (10-11) captured its second-straight midweek victory with a 12-5 win at Santa Clara (9-10) on Wednesday night at Stephen Schott Stadium.
The UConn bats scored in seven consecutive innings from the second inning through the eighth to separate themselves from the Broncos.
After a sloppy start to the game, the Huskies trailed 4-2 entering the third inning. Junior Tyler Minick cut the deficit in half with a 413 foot solo homer to left field to make it a 4-3 game.Â
The Huskies tied the game in the fourth and recaptured the lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Nater Wachter to make it 5-4.Â
Rob Rispoli and Jackson Marshall added to the lead with RBI singles in the sixth inning.Â
Greg Shaw III earned the victory out of the pen with 3.2 shutout innings and set a new career-high at UConn with seven strikeouts on the night.Â
Tristan Aasland pitched 2.0 innings of relief with four strikeouts after Sean Finn got the start and worked 1.1 innings.Â
California native, Joe Talarico, closed the game out with a season-high 2.0 innings and struck out two without walking a batter.
Freshman Cam Righi added to the lead in the seventh with his second home run of the year.Â
Next up, the Huskies head into a four-game weekend at San Jose State with two games against the Spartans and two games against San Diego State. First pitch on Friday, March 20 is set for 8:35 p.m. ET.
