SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The UConn softball team lost a heartbreaker to the Seton Hall Pirates on Friday afternoon, falling 5-4 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 7^th inning.

Freshman Caprice Bohmer earned her ninth start of the season for the Huskies. Bohmer was forced to exit the game early after being hit with a line drive in the second inning. Sophomore Amber Bretton came on for Bohmer, making her sixth appearance of the season. Bretton went 2.1 innings for the Huskies, giving up a run on just two hits.

Seton Hall opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2^nd inning with a two-run single, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

UConn's offense struggled against Seton Hall starter Karissa Dupuis holding the Huskies hitless through the first 4.1 innings.

In the top of the 5^th inning, seniors Kaitlyn Kibling and Savannah Ring kick-started the Huskies offense, as Kibling drew a seven-pitch walk, followed by Ring breaking up the no-hitter with a double down the left field line, setting up Haley Coupal to bring home UConn's first run of the game. Coupal hustled out an infield single, scoring Kibling from third base, trimming into the Pirates lead, 2-1.

Seton Hall responded with a run in the bottom of the 5^th inning, once again making it a two-run game at 3-1.

Graduate Jessica Walter came on in relief for Bretton during the 5^th inning, making her 17^th appearance this season. Walter finished out the game in the circle for the Huskies, going 2.1 innings giving up two runs on a pair of hits.

UConn mounted a comeback in the top of the 7^th inning, scoring three runs to take their first lead of the game. Cat Petteys brought the Huskies to within a run with a double to center field, scoring Kibling from second base. The next batter, Coupal delivered a game-tying single to right field, scoring Ring from third base. Kaitlyn Breslin gave UConn the lead, reaching on an error, allowing Petteys to score from third base, making it 4-3.

In the bottom of the 7^th inning, Seton Hall's Katey Brennan hit a walk-off two-run home run, giving the Pirates a 5-4 win in the series opener.
