TUCSON, Ariz. - The UConn baseball team (3-5) secured a four-game series win with an 11-2 win at Arizona (1-7) on Sunday afternoon in front of 3129 at Hi Corbett Field.

On Sunday, the UConn offense scored a season-high 11 runs on 12 hits and scored in seven of its nine at-bats.

Jackson Marshall gave the Huskies an early advantage with an RBI single in the first. The UConn first baseman finished the afternoon with a three-hit effort.

Nater Wachter added to the lead in the second with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to extend the lead to 3-0. Wachter closed the day with a pair of hits and three runs batted in.

Oliver Pudvar earned the victory with 5.1 innings of work, allowed just two runs on eight hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three. Leading 6-0 in the fourth, the Wildcats strung four hits together against Pudvar but the left hander only allowed one run after getting a pop up and fly out to strand the bases loaded.

UConn put the game away with a Gaby Tirado RBI double in the eighth and a three-run ninth inning to push the lead to nine.

Drew Smith, Paxton Meyers and Sean Finn combined for 3.2 shutout innings to shut the door on the Huskies first series win of the year.

Next up, the Huskies travel to UNC Wilmington next weekend from February 27-March 1 to play a three-game set.

Game Notes

The series win is the first-ever for the Huskies over a Big 12 opponent. The Huskies did beat Oklahoma twice in three games to win the 2024 Norman Regional.
The Huskies four extra base hits on Sunday is a new season-high.
UConn won a four-game series for the first time since winning three-of-four during spreak break in 2023 at Hawai'i (March 10-13, 2023) and San Diego State (March 16-19).
During the four-game set, the Huskies starting pitchers all recorded at least 16 outs with Pudvar (5.1), Hale (5.2), West (6.2) and Suchy (6.2) all working into the sixth or later.
