PHOENIX - The UConn baseball team (0-4) dropped its first midweek contest of the season, 17-7, to Arizona State (4-0) on Tuesday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.Â
RHP Tristan Aasland made his first career start as a Husky and pitched 3.2 innings.Â
First baseman Jackson Marshall hit the first UConn home run of the season with a 430 foot blast to cut the deficit to 2-1.Â
The Sun Devils created plenty of breathing room with a eight-run fourth inning.Â
Coming off the bench, freshman Bryce Detwiler and Cam Righi put together milestone moments. Detwiler singled in his first at-bat and notched a run-scoring single in his second time at the plate. Righi, hit a two-run homer in his first career collegiate at-bat.Â
Drew Smith made his collegiate debut out of the bullpen and tossed a scoreless inning of work and recorded his first strikeout.Â
Garret Garbinski followed with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless inning of work.
Evan Menzel registered his second three-hit game in his last three games and delivered a two-run single in the ninth.
Next up, the Huskies head to Tucson to play a four-game series at Arizona, beginning Thursday, February 19 at 8 p.m. ET
