HookC Loses On Opening Day

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The UConn baseball team (0-1) suffered a 12-2 defeat against Nebraska (1-0) on Opening Day at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.Â
The Huskies jumped in front in the top of the first inning with a two-out, RBI single off the bat of senior Maddix Dalena.
Nebraska responded with four runs in the bottom of the first and held momentum for much of the night.Â
UConn was held to four hits total with Tyler Minick notching two of those on the night. Jackson Marshall collected his first career knock with an infield single in the opening frame.
Six Huskies made their UConn debuts on Friday with Evan Menzel, Marshall, Nater Wachter, Chris Polemeni in the starting lineup and Charlie Hale and Garret Garbinski coming out of the bullpen.
Hale had the best night on the bump for the Huskies with 1.2 innings of one-run ball.Â
Charlie West got the start on the mound and struck out six in 3.2 innings of work.Â
Next up, the Huskies play Kansas State at Scottsdale Stadium on Saturday, February 14 at 7 p.m. ET.
