No. 6 UConn Visits Butler On Wednesday At Hinkle

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 6 UConn men's basketball team (22-2, 12-1 BIG EAST) is back on the road on Wednesday night for a trip to Hinkle Fieldhouse to take on Butler (13-11, 4-9 BIG EAST). The conclusion of the regular season series between the Huskies and Bulldogs will air on TNT and truTV at 7:30 p.m. with Spero Dedes, Robbie Hummel and Jared Greenberg on the call.
Connecticut took the first meeting against Butler in the league opener, a 79-60 victory on Dec. 16 in Hartford behind a career-high 26 points from Solo Ball and a season-high 13 blocked shots. UConn has never lost to Butler in a series that dates back to the 2011 National Championship and resumed in 2020-21 as conference-mates. The Huskies have taken all 11 meetings as league foes and are 5-0 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
UConn was last in action on Friday night when it saw its 18-game winning streak and perfect 12-0 start to league play spoiled by homestanding No. 22 St. John's, falling 81-72 at Madison Square Garden. The Huskies shot 54.7 in the setback but were out-attempted 31-12 from the foul line and turned it over 15 times. Silas Demary Jr. led UConn across the board with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Alex Karaban scored 17 and moved into 12th on the UConn all-time scoring list.
Solo Ball and Tarris Reed Jr. are tied for the team-high with 14.0 points per game, as all five UConn regular starters score in double-figures. Karaban follows closely with 13.5 points per game and adds 5.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in a league-high 33.6 minutes per night. In league play Ball, Demary Jr., Karaban, Braylon Mullins and Reed Jr. all average between 12.8 and 13.8 points per game, making the Huskies the lone high major with five players averaging at least 12 points per game in conference action.
Mullins, who will be returning to his home state on Wednesday night, is shooting 41.0 percent from three in league play, best in the conference among qualified shooters. Demary Jr. leads the league with 6.1 assists per game and scores 11.2 per contest on 49.2 percent from the field and 47.2 percent from 3-point range. Offensively UConn leads the BIG EAST in field goal percentage (49.0), 3-point field goal percentage (36.8) and assists per game (18.3).
Reed Jr. leads the Huskies with 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game and is shooting 64.0 percent from the field, best in the conference and 12th nationally. He and Demary Jr. were both named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watch list last month, serving as the anchor and 'head of the snake' on UConn's top-five defense. The Huskies are top-20 nationally in scoring defense (64.5 ppg), 3-point percentage defense (28.4 percent), field goal percentage defense (39.5 percent) and blocks per game (5.4).
Butler was last in action on Saturday with a defeat at Marquette. The Bulldogs are 9-4 this season at Hinkle Fieldhouse, including a 3-3 mark in league play at home. Finley Bizjack is among the BIG EAST's leading scorers with 17.9 points per game, while Michael Ajayi leads the league in rebounding at 11.6 caroms per contest.
The Huskies return home on Saturday, Feb. 14 for a Valentine's Night showdown with Georgetown at Gampel Pavilion.
