UConn Comes Up Short Against Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - UConn lost to Georgetown 3-0 on Friday evening at McDonough Arena.
Sydney Borowy led UConn with 12 kills while hitting .333 and adding a block assist. Courtney Grayson posted a team-high seven blocks, including two solo blocks, and added five kills. Audrey Jensen finished with 24 assists, five total blocks, five digs and two service aces. Helena Einarsdottir collected a team-high 10 digs and served two aces.
The opening set stayed close early, with Jensen assisting kills by Grayson, Einarsdottir and Borowy as the Huskies stayed within 6-5 before Georgetown moved ahead 8-5. Georgetown built the margin to 12-7 on a kill and later scored four straight points from 15-10 to 19-10. UConn cut the deficit to 22-17 with two Grayson kills and back-to-back blocks by Jensen and Grayson, but Georgetown reached set point at 24-17. Maja Daca had a kill and a service ace around another Jensen-Grayson block to pull the Huskies within 24-20 before the Hoyas closed the set, 25-20.
UConn opened the second set with Jensen-Grayson block and an Einarsdottir ace for a 2-0 lead, and later held a 6-4 edge after a Georgetown attack error and a Borowy kill. Georgetown took three straight points to move ahead 7-6 and later led 14-11, before a service error, a block involving Jensen, Jordyn Hughes and Borowy, and Borowy's kill from Jensen brought the Huskies even at 14-14. Georgetown answered with three straight points to go up 17-14, then stretched the margin to 19-15 after another Borowy kill. Consecutive kills pushed Georgetown to 23-18, and after a service error gave UConn one more point, a block finished Georgetown's 25-19 set win.
Jensen served back-to-back aces to put UConn ahead 4-2 in the third set, but Georgetown answered to move in front 10-7. The Huskies chipped back with a Hazuna Akishige ace and two Borowy kills to tie the set at 13-13, then moved ahead 18-16 after a Grace Maria-Grayson block, a Georgetown attack error and Einarsdottir's ace. Daca and Borowy kills helped keep UConn in front 20-18 before Georgetown tied it at 20-20, and the teams traded points until Olivia Pasternak's kill put the Huskies up 23-22. Georgetown took the last two points on a UConn attack error and another kill to finish the set 25-23.
The Huskies return to the court tomorrow to take on the Villanova Wildcats at 7 p.m. on the Main Line.
