STORRS – The No. 4 UConn men's basketball team (13-1, 3-0 BIG EAST) rides a nine-game winning streak into its first game in the friendly confines of Gampel in nearly a month when it hosts Marquette (5-9, 0-3 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon at Gampel Pavilion is a BLUE OUT. Fans are encouraged to wear their Husky blue and bring the noise, energy and passion.
UConn has won its last five meetings with Marquette, dating back to a three-game season sweep in 2023-24 and continuing with a regular season sweep last season. Since the Huskies returned to the BIG EAST ahead of 2020-21, they are 10-2 against the Golden Eagles. MU's last visit to Gampel was on March 5, 2025, a 72-66 win for Connecticut.
UConn is coming off its third straight league win to open the BIG EAST campaign, last in action on New Year's Eve with a 90-67 wire-to-wire win at Xavier. Alex Karaban led the way for Connecticut with a game-high 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. The Husky captain was joined atop the scoresheet by Solo Ball and Braylon Mullins with 17 points apiece, while Tarris Reed Jr. was the fourth Husky in double-figures with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Mullins added career-highs of six rebounds and four assists, while becoming the first Husky this year to hit five 3-pointers as he matched his rookie season scoring best.
The Huskies have boasted one of the nation's elite defenses this season and currently rank No. 3 in Kenpom defensive efficiency. UConn is among the NCAA leaders in scoring defense (61.5 ppg, 6th), field goal percentage defense (37.5 percent, 12th) and blocks per game (5.8, 12th).
Marquette is coming off a setback to Seton Hall in its last outing on Tuesday night, falling to 0-3 in conference play. Chase Ross leads the Golden Eagles with 16.6 points per game to go with 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while Nigel James Jr. scores in double-figures with 12.4 points and a team-high 3.8 assists a night.
Following the Sunday matinee the Huskies make the short trip to Providence to take on the Friars on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
