NEW YORK – After a 2-0 week, the No. 4 UConn men's basketball team swept the BIG EAST weekly honors with Silas Demary Jr. taking his first Player of the Week honor and Braylon Mullins nabbed his second Freshman of the Week certificate. The sweep marks a first for the Huskies since Dec. 23, 2024 (Alex Karaban and Liam McNeeley).
Demary Jr. picks up his first BIG EAST Player of the Week honor and his second overall league accolade, also earning a spot on the Nov. 24 honor roll. He had one of the great individual performances in recent memory on Jan. 7 in UConn's overtime win at Providence, scoring 23 points with 15 assists and five steals. It marked the third-most assists in a game in UConn history, the second 20p-15a double-double in BIG EAST history and the third 20p-15a-5s line in NCAA history. Demary Jr. was clutch down the stretch in Friartown, hitting a game-sealing bucket with 10.4 seconds to play in the 103-98 comeback.
Against DePaul on Jan. 10, Demary Jr. scored 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 from three, adding a game-high four assists and three steals in the 72-60 win. In his first six BIG EAST games the 6-4 junior is averaging 11.8 points and dishing out a league-best 8.0 assists per game along with 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals.
Mullins had a career performance on Wednesday at PC, scoring a career-high 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor and hitting a career-high six 3-pointer on 10 attempts. The freshman added two steals, three assists and two rebounds in a career-best 41 minutes. In overtime Mullins scored eight points in a game-changing flurry from 4:25 to 1:53 to power the Huskies to their seventh-straight win over the Friars.
In Saturday's outing against DePaul, Mullins led all players with 16 points and seven rebounds, the latter a new career-high. He shot 5-of-10 from the field, 2-of-5 from 3-poimnt range and a perfect 4-for-4 from the line against the Blue Demons and added three assists, three steals and a new personal-best two blocks. In league action this season Mullins averages 14.0 points on a 48.4/43.9/85.7 shooting line with 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. He was named BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year and also nabbed the league's weekly honor on Dec. 2.
The Huskies return to action on Tuesday night at Seton Hall.
