Huskies Fall to No. 13 St. Cloud State in Season Opener

STORRS, Conn. – No. 12 UConn women's hockey team was defeated by No. 13 St. Cloud State, 2-1 on Friday evening in front of 2,223 fans at the Toscano Family Ice Forum.
UConn jumped out to an early lead off the stick on senior forward Megan Woodworth, giving the Huskies a 1-0 advantage with just under ten minutes remaining in the first period.
St. Cloud State answered right back, netting the equalizer with three minutes remaining in the first period, knotting the game at 1-1.
The game remained tied going into the first intermission with UConn leading in shots 17-4.
Both goaltenders stood tall in the second period, holding both teams scoreless. UConn's Tia Chan made 10 saves in the period. Chan finished with 27 saves in the game. UConn edged St. Cloud in shots, 13-10 in the second period.
St. Cloud State scored the deciding goal three minutes into the third period, giving the Huskies a 2-1 advantage.
UConn threw everything they had at St. Cloud for the final 17 minutes, but St. Cloud's netminder Emilia Kyrkkö held firm, finishing with a season high 35 saves.
