WSOC Wins Third-Straight

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (4-2-1) won its third-straight match with a 3-1 triumph against Maine on Sunday afternoon at Morrone Stadium.
UConn used a season-high 20 players in the win with all nine subs playing at least 20 minutes or more. Freshman Kalina Fraser played in her first collegiate game on Sunday.
The game remained scoreless until late in the first half when UConn the first team to get on the score sheet. Sophomore Naia Ocio powered home her first goal of the season at the 42.59 mark to put the Huskies out in front.Â
The Huskies doubled the lead just under 10 minutes into the second half after Chioma Okafor drew a foul and penalty kick by the Maine goalkeeper. Sophomore Taylor Jenkins took the PK attempt and buried her first goal of the season.Â
Less than five minutes later, Anaya Johnson slipped a transition pass ahead to Okafor. The senior captain beat the keeper to the ball, manuevered past and scored for the second-straight game. It is her third goal of the season.Â
The UConn defense did have their scoreless streak end in the 61st minute as the Black Bears were able to end a bid for a fourth-straight shutout. The scoreless streak reached 400 minutes and 51 seconds.Â
The Huskies three goals was a season-high on Sunday and carry momentum into BIG EAST Conference play next Saturday, Sept. 20 against St. John's.Â
