NEW YORK- Diarmuid O'Connor (Cork, Ireland) and Olivia Wright (Glen Allen, Va.) have been named BIG EAST Female and Male Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the conference announced in a release earlier this week.
O'Connor earned Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in June, finishing 15th in the country in the decathlon. O'Connor was the first Husky to earn all-American honors at the outdoor championships in consecutive seasons since 2016, taking home honors at the 2024 Championships as well. O'Connor finished second in the decathlon's final event, the 1500m run, with a personal best time of 4:22.52 at the outdoor championships. The senior from Ireland was crowned BIG EAST Champion in the heptathlon at the BIG EAST indoor track & field championships in Chicago, finishing with a personal best 5,594 points, winning five of seven events.
Wright was a unanimous selection as BIG EAST Player of the Year, the first player in program history to win the award. Wright led the Huskies in the number one slot, guiding the team to a program-best 16-5 record, going 9-1 in conference play. Wright finished the spring season with a 16-2 record in number one doubles. In May, Wright earned her degree in psychology.
