Lacrosse Rolls to Road Win Over UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y.- UConn women's lacrosse (5-2) picked up their first road win of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking down University at Albany with an early offensive flurry and a lockdown defensive performance by a score of 15-4.
First Quarter:
- The Huskies got off to a quick start, as Anna Magennis fired in a free-position shot, and BIG EAST Attacker of the Week Eliza Bowman stayed hot, with her 21st goal of the year
- The Danes responded with a goal from Ava Poupard to cut the UConn lead to 2-1
- After UAlbany tied the score, Emma Dacey gave the Huskies the lead back with her 5th goal of the season, going ahead 3-2
- Despite a UConn yellow card, the Huskies continued to fuel the offense, with Rayea Davis scoring her 20th goal on the free-position to extend the visitors' Â lead to 4-2.
- Davis kept the Husky attack going, adding another goal in the first to go up 5-2
- Jenna Giardina took a beautiful pass from Ava Plata for the sixth goal of the first quarter for UConn
Second Quarter:
- Tori Cini kept the Danes at bay, with a smattering of saves to keep the UConn lead at 6-2 in the second quarter's opening minutes.
- Davis completed the hat-trick in the second for her 22nd of the year
- Karsyn Burnash got involved on the action, converting a feed from Davis to push UConn's lead to 8-2
- Davis sent UAlbany into a timeout, with her fourth goal of the half to extend the advantage to 9-2
- Anna Zimmermann scored the 10th goal of the half for the Huskies, as UConn continued to pour it on in the second quarter
- Riley Daly made an incredible play on a ground ball, and found Bowman for her second goal of the afternoon to run the lead to 11-2
Third Quarter:
- Burnash scored her second of the afternoon to kickstart the running clock for a double-digit Husky lead
- Davis scored her 5th goal of the afternoon on the woman-up advantage, running the clock again for a 13-3 Husky lead going into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter:
- Giardina scored her second of the day, converting the free position shot to boost the visitors to a 14-3 advantage
- Lucia Smigiel scored her first career goal to cap off an impressive showing for UConn, as they moved to 5-2 on the season.
Statistical Notes:
In the first quarter, Meghan Lane recorded her 250th career draw control. Davis scored 5 goals in a game this season for the third time this season. Cini made eight saves, tying her second-most in a single game this season.
Up Next: UConn returns home to welcome in-state foe No. 4 Yale on Wednesday March 12th at 1:00pm at Morrone Stadium.
