STORRS – The No. 4 UConn men's basketball team (2-0) will return to action on Monday night when it hosts Columbia (1-0) at Gampel Pavilion. The contest concludes a season-opening three-game homestand for the Huskies. Tip time is set for 6:30 p.m. airing on FS1 with Dave Sims and Donny Marshall on the call.
Monday marks the 12th all-time meeting between Connecticut and Columbia in a series that dates back to Jan. 14, 1953. The Lions took that meeting in Manhattan and another in 1976, otherwise UConn has won the nine other meetings and nine of the last 10. The sides have met in the Nutmeg State thrice since 2011 and last squared off in 2017 at Gampel, a 77-73 overtime triumph for the Huskies.
The Huskies are coming off one of the most dominant performances in program history last Friday, dismantling UMass Lowell by a score of 110-47 in Hartford. UConn soared out to a 44-3 lead and took a 47-point lead to the half, a new program record for halftime advantage. Tarris Reed Jr. made his season debut with a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double and added four blocks while shooting 9-of-12 from the floor in only 17 minutes. Seven Huskies finished in double-figures and the Huskies shot 60.9 percent on the day, flummoxing the River Hawks to a dismal 21.3 percent shooting day.
Columbia also notched a win its last outing, opening the season with a 71-53 victory at New Haven in first-year head coach Kevin Hovde's debut. Kenny Noland led the Lions with 14 points as the Lions shot 55.1 percent from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point range.
Following Monday night's contest, the Huskies ramp up their elite non-conference schedule and head to Boston to take on No. 8 BYU in the Hall of Fame Series on Saturday, Nov. 15.
