Huskies Bounce Back with Sweep of Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- UConn women's volleyball defeated Seton Hall in straight sets (25-14, 25-22, 25-13) on Saturday evening at Walsh Gymnasium.
UConn jumped out to an early 4-1 lead, fueled by kills from Emma Werkmeister and Doga Kutlu and Seton Hall errors. Daria Safian had two consecutive aces for the Pirates to close the gap to one at 7-6. The Huskies extended their lead, going in front 15-8 following multiple Hall miscues and aces from Brenna Wyman and Grace Maria. Kutlu fired in UConn's fourth ace of the opening frame and the duo of Eli Adams and Jess Perry combined for a rejection to put the visitors in front 21-11. Audrey Rome and Hanna Tylska chipped in kills to lift UConn to a 25-14 set victory.
Safian and Asli Subasili put Seton Hall in front 7-4 in the opening moments of the second set. After falling behind 11-5, two aces from Maggie Carley brought the Huskies within two at 11-9. Werkmeister pulled UConn level 15-15 with two kills in rapid fashion. Tylska and Perry paced a 4-0 run with a kill apiece to push the Huskies in front 19-17. The Pirates cut the UConn advantage to 22-21 but two more terminations from Werkmeister helped the Huskies take the second set, 25-22.
Werkmeister and Rome each fired in two kills to give UConn a 5-1 lead in the third. The Huskies continued their relentless attack in the third frame. McKenna Brand fired in an ace and Perry added another kill to extend the advantage to 10-2. Perry kept the foot on the gas for the Huskies with two more kills to widen the UConn margin to 17-5. The visitors would not be denied in their pursuit of a sweep, with New Jersey native Dajah Williams firing off three straight kills to lift UConn to a straight-set victory.
Werkmeister led the Huskies with 16 kills on an efficient .438 hit percentage. Perry tied her season-high of 10 kills (9/5 vs Ball State). Kutlu conducted the UConn offense with 29 assists, adding 10 digs as well. UConn hit .372 as a team, the second-highest mark all season (8/29 vs Lehigh).
Up Next: UConn returns home next weekend for its final two home matches of the season. The Huskies will face Butler on Friday at 5:30pm and Xavier on Saturday at 3:30pm.
